Oscar Isberian Rugs featured in Luxe Interiors + Design cover story on the modern reinterpretation of a Lakewood-Balmoral home

While creating a contemporary dwelling in one of Chicago’s most historic neighborhoods, interior designer Steven Kadlec and architect Dan Wheeler envisioned harmony in contrast.

Evident upon viewing the home’s exterior, which subtly reimagines the area’s architectural motifs, this balance remains all the more clear in its interior. Honoring his clients’ Scandinavian design preferences, Kadlec focused on environments “[favoring] a style that’s simple and modern” while “[breathing] warmth and livability” into each space.

The library first introduces this aesthetic. Characterized by a lack of visual clutter, the room’s floor-to-ceiling shelves, minimalist furniture, and symmetrical presentation evoke a sense of organizational unity. Colorful accents enliven its final look with artwork by James Siena and a deeply hued Oscar Isberian rug.

Congratulations to Kadlec Architecture & Design, Wheeler Kearns Architects, and all other collaborators involved.
