Roger Oates Design began in 1987, when Roger Oates and Fay Morgan set out to re-imagine traditional flatwoven flooring for contemporary interiors. Inspired by a historic flatwoven fragment discovered at Kellie Castle in Scotland, they saw the potential to transform heritage weaving techniques into decorative, modern stair runners. That original vision continues to guide the brand today.

Heritage and making

Roger Oates stair runners are woven in the UK on specially adapted Hattersley looms, using the brand’s own 100% wool yarn. The wool is spun and dyed in Yorkshire, and each runner is finished by hand by skilled craftspeople. By staying close to traditional production methods, the brand preserves the distinctive character, texture, and quality that define their work.
